I once sat next to a marine. The scarred warrior was looking at a picture of a red headed girl. I asked if she was his, he said yes. He was a force recon grunt coming back from leave. We exchange tales of valor, in which his exploits made my own pale in comparison. Although a seasoned warrior, he said his toughest fight was still ahead of him. When I asked him what it was, he showed me a ring he was going to give it to his love when his tour was over. He said “This uniform changed me, I can feel it pushing her away. I love her more than anything. I want her to not only feel my love, but to also breath it, and live it -always. There’s no fight more important, and a fight that I can stand to lose everything if I fail. I don’t want another day to go by without her by my side”. He then told their story, they were friends since kindergarten and he professed his love for her when they were fourteen, and they became high school sweetheart. Although I didn’t really reply, out of a lack of audacity to show my none masculine side, I was touched. Three month later, I found out the same marine was KIA in Kwost province in Afghanistan three weeks before he was supposed to go home. I can’t help but think that this is a true hero, someone who stands to lose everything and puts his life on the line to defend what we hold for granted every day. Steve Jobs, did he leave behind his vast fortune and lavish lifestyle to fight for the country in which made him rich? The answer is no, however most people worship that rotten fruit symbol more than the cross. His company relish in unfathomable sums of money, profits obtained by exploitation of poor migrant workers in china, working for less than a dollar a day. These are well known fact, yet his death was mourned internationally while the marine who died for his country didn’t even make the six o’clock news.
Get your priority straight America.
I kissed the rain and
Touched the horizon of time
Stroke the endless light in the sky.
I saw the night smile
And the doves cry
As days passed by.
And I’ve seen the infinity of the sea
And its wonderful heights
World’s treasures that get a heart to elate.
I saw so many beautiful things
That kept me in awe, stunning loss of words
But never met something beautiful like this
You must be the most wonderful thing in the world.
Like the songs of sirens your voice calls to me
A net capturing my soul with just a whisper
The warrior within me fights the alluring call
But inevitably succumbed the deep rooted surrender of your beauty.
I often wonder,
Just how many have fallen
knee knocking Before you
As I have?
I open my mouth to speak
But, Alas, no sound…
just what is it about you?
That hauls away my voice
Widowing my mouth of sound?
I am but an archer
Shooting arrows in darkness
Hoping, just it arrows strikes.
Shadow beneath my mortal coil
How I long to be in your place
To be able to dance with fire
And not feel the heat of her flame
To be stepped on and not feel the pain.
I yearn to disappear into the night
As you do
And live in the world of darkness
Where we know not of color
Of regrets or judgement.
To know not of envy or love and lost
To be unbound to the hourglass
And the shackles of mortality
Those who fear the darkness
Knows not of it’s beauty
The darkness forgets and forgives
It knows no class
It does not distinguish
It is a world where everything is truly equal.

Oh heavenly father,
I kneel every night and every day
To you my lord I pray and pray
So lord to you I ask, now that lost my way
Why is it that good people you take away?
Those I hold dear you take,
While those that kill and dump in lakes
Get to see morning wake after wake
On my knees I cry and cry
Until my tears have ran dry
I pray, but sometimes I wonder why I should even try.
Please lord, give me a sign
Anything or just simple line
Because I feel quite blind.
The lighted candle,
Standing tall with its flame’s bright
It knows its flames will fade into darkness
It knows it’s time will come, and one day he will burn out.
He longs to feel the warmth of day, to see blue skies
To mingle with the Earth and stay to dance with the rays of the sunrise.
But he’s trap in a perpetual prison of fear,
If he steps outside, the wind will blow his flame away
So he hides solitude, where it’s safe
Watching his flame burn away…
